Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

Or in my case, Happy Lantern/Mooncake Festival! =)

In conjunction with the event, here's a lantern mani using Moyou London's Zodiac plate!!!

I actually wanted stamp with a green polish over Miss Ashleigh's Midnight Shadows but it didn't really work out so I went the other way.

I painted 3 layers of green OPI tint and stamped using Mundodeunas black. The design came out quite nice!

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

P/S: Eat more mooncakes!

I'm The Corny Kind!

Hey guys!

I've got another inspired mani for you guys and I'm pretty sure most of you know the person I got the inspiration from!

Just in case you dont, let me introduce Lindy from BubzBeauty. She is a beauty blogger and also a vlogger. I love watching her vlogs!

Recently, she is currently hosting an online donation drive by selling a sweater with her original design on it. All sales proceeds will be used to fund fully functional schools in Laos.

(PC: BubzBeauty)

She previously had a similar drive with her 'I'm A Unicorn' tank top which is back on sale btw! Can you guess the design for this drive yet?

Introducing the 'I'm The Corny Kind' Sweater!
(PC: BubzBeauty)

Yup, poop! That's what I painted!

It's actually quite cute no? Colours used :

Base coat - Essence Ultra Strong Nail Hardener
Grey - Miss Ashleigh A Clean Slate
Design - Acrylic Paint
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl

If any of you are interested in purchasing the sweater, click here

Birdie Blues

Happy Monday all,

*yawnnnn*

Yup, that's sounds like the normal Monday morning response. Le boyfriend suggested painting my nails blue because you know...Monday blues...hahahahhaha

Well I take anything that sounds good. So, I did a blue with white french gradient tips. It reminded me of clouds and how fluffy they are and how nice it would be to sleep on them...

*yawnnnnn*

This post is making me sleepy...but gradients to be are a bit boring now so I did some stamping. Making use of my Moyou London Zodiac Plate, I stamped on a bird on a branch. =)

Looks really good with the gradient. Like looking up from under a tree with a bird perched on a branch and the cloudy blue sky as the background.

Colours used:

Base coat - Essence Ultra Strong Nail Hardener
White - OPI Alpine Snow
Blue - Miss Ashleigh Baby's Got The Blues
Black - Mundodeunas
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl

That's it for this post!

A New Phase in Life

Hey guys,

Good news! I got a new job! :)

I am now currently a Social Media Executive - which was my goal all the while so double whoopie!!

I did not plan this mani but it fit in the sense that it was finally time to spread my wings.

Thanks to @yagala on instagram, I had a sudden urge to paint butterfly wings and so I did! Her tutorials are awesome so do check her out!

Colours Used:

Base Coat | Essence Ultra Strong Nail Hardener
Teal | Pa A72
Glitter | Etude House
Gold - China Glaze Passion
Black - Acrylic Paint / Laval
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl

That's it for this post!

Thirsty for Grape Soda

Hey peeps!

Here's another swatch from the iScream Nails set. This polish is called Grape Soda. Sounds tasty no?! Another colour under the pastel neons category.

At first, it strikes me of a more magenta shade then it just seems pinkish violet. I would say this is quite a unique colour.

This is three coats of Grape Soda over a coat of OPI Alpine Snow. As per the other polishes, I wouldn't call them streaky but two coats just ain't enough.

Here's the nail art I did to go with the polish. I was aiming for a more flowery theme...sis-in-law said it reminded her of henna.

I think this shot of the mani is pretty good. Hopefully, it means that I'm getting used to the new shooting arrangements. :)

That's it for this post!

MY Burgerlab Turns 3!

Hey guys!

As per usual, if you guys are following me on instagram @chronosz then you would know what's in store! :)

It's MY Burgerlabs 3rd birthday!!

For those not in Malaysia or KL even - Burgerlab is a burger joint famed for their charcoal buns and local flavours like the RAKSASA!! which literally means monster. It is their third birthday and every year, they have a surprise for all of us.

This year, it is a joint effort with The BIG Group to create the Mac & Cheese Burger! Have a look at the post on my food blog for the deets on the burger!

As you guys know that I love painting event inspired manis...so here's the MY Burgerlab birthday edition!

I painted this with the logos for Burgerlab and The BIG group in mind plus the birthday poster. It's supposed to be a light bulb burger! Just in case you can't see the burger...

Hahaha! Oh! And here's a close up on the BiG Group logo.

There's supposed to be a 'B' in the middle of the bulb but the yellow was too striking thus unable to make out clearly...but I'm quite proud of thr light bulb since I used reverse stamping to make it. Here's a look at how I did it.

Finally what you guys have been waiting for! The polishes I used for the mani!

Base Coat - Essie Nail Hardener
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl
Black - Laval
White - OPI Alpine Snow & Acrylic Paint
Yellow - iScream nails Juicy Juicy & China Glaze
Stamping black - Mundodeunas
Light bulb - Bundle Monster BM409

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

How About A Grasshopper Pie?

Hey guys!

Following up on my iScream nails stash, here's the first swatch with Grasshopper Pie!

Actually, before I knew the name of the polish I thought it was going to be mint something. It was quite a surprise when it turned out to be grasshopper pie! Now every time I see the polish, I'll be thinking of grasshoppers! LOL Not that it's a bad thing. LOL

Anyway, here's the swatch!

Grasshopper pie is mint green which is a bit pastel and a bit neon at the same time which would qualify it as a pastel neon. Duh! In my opinion, 5 out of 6 of the polishes are pastel neons. The swatch is 3 layers over a layer of OPI Alpine Snow a.k.a. my favourite white polish! I don't find it streaky but it does leave blotches thus why I needed 3 layers. Also, I tend to paint pastels over a layer of white polish now to give it an extra UMPH! and brightness.

Personally, Grasshopper Pie is one of my favourites among the polishes. I love minty colours and mint colours that actually stand out above the rest are totally worth it.

On the other hand (literally), here's the nail art I did with it as a base. I noticed a surplus of chevron on the instagram lately and decided to join it. Darn me for doing it free hand...I actually wanted to use @teismom chevron vinyls but the vinyls are the wide chevron type I wanted to paint the thinner and longer chevron so free hand it was. Such regret, much sad. It turned out alright on the pointer finger but the rest were terrible. The lines were so thick and rough and bumpy. *cries* On the bright side, I have to say it's pretty good considering that I was painting my princess hand. :P

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

An Early iScream Birthday!

Hey guys!

Soooo someone really sweet has given me my birthday present SIX months in ADVANCE! Can you guys guess what it is? I think you cannnnnn!!!

Woo hoo! Six iScream nails polishes! This sweet girl came back from Melbourne with a extremely sugary surprise! I actually almost bought the polishes until she told me not to!

From the left: Bubblegum Bang, Mint Madness, Grape Soda

From the left: Blue Heaven, Grasshopper Pie, Juicy Juicy

I'm not the type to swatch polishes in one day because if it's pretty then I don't want to waste it. I have a plan now to swatch and do some nail art before moving to the next colour. If you follow my instagram @chronosz or read the previous post then you would have seen this mani.

This was done using iScream nails Blue Heaven.

So look forward to the swatches. :)

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Baby Showers

Hi all!

I actually did not plan this mani but it ended up painting a baby shower-ish mani. I was going for a neat, basic, elegant and pastel mani in the beginning.

So, I grabbed some @teismom stripe nail vinyls and my Laval pink polish. It looked pretty good then as I was going for my right hand, I decided to use a different colour. Who wants to be same as the others? =P

I haven't gotten the chance to swatch the new iScream polishes I got from my friend Junlynn as an early birtbirthday present but I just had to try it!

This is iScream nails Blue Heaven on OPI Alpine Snow. It came out better than I realised!

Also, not sure if you guys actually noticed that the composition of my photo is different now but I'm trying out something new. Here's the story, I was out yum cha-ing (literally translated as drinking tea) or having supper with my friend at Alexis Telawi and this guy selling lights comes up to our table. The table light he was selling was foldable and extremely bright! I was sold!

Thus how I ended up using the light to take photos of manis at night instead of in the morning. I seldom take morning photoa because I wake up early for work and I'm indoors during the morning. I'm still working out the angle and stuff but so far so good.

Another surprise! The blue mani got more than 100 likes on Instagram! This is a first for me! For those on instagram reading this, thanks a bunch!

In the meantime, here's a really short picture tutorial for you guys.

First, paint a layer of white - I used OPI Alpine Snow. Top it off with your favourite top coat - I used Glisten & Glow HK Girl. Then used some striping tape or nail vinyl and place it in the middle - I used @teismom nail vinyls. Once placed properly, paint your chosen colour until opaque and carefully remove the tape before the polish dries - I used Laval Pink & iScream Nails Blue Heaven. Finally, top it off with top coat and you're done!

Simple rite!

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Stamping Wonders

Hey guys!

I thought I would share some of my latest manis with you just in case you don't follow me on my instagram @chronosz. =)

I did this mani with no particular design in mind...I just wanted my current fav Canmake polish and some sort of design. So, I flipped through my stamping plates for a nice design and decided on one from BM-404. I used reverse stamping to get the pattern on.

Polishes used :

Base coat - Essence Ultra Strong Nail Hardener
Green - Canmake 406C
Gold Glitter - OPI Don't Speak 18k Gold Top Coat
Stamping Polish - Laval Black
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl

This is my current NOTD but not for long!! I'm going for something girly next!

As you can tell, I've been doing some stamping here and there. This mani is a double stamped butterfly design also using a Bundle Monster plate.

Colours Used :
Base Coat - Essie Nail Hardener Top Coat
Blue Texture Polish - Miss Ashleigh See You In Santorini
White stamping polish - Mundodeunas white
Purple polish - Color Club Ms. Socialite
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl
Bundle Moster Stamping Plate BM-307

I wasn't really feeling this mani...but others did so that's good enough for me! Look forward to more swatches!

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Happy St Patty's Day!

Hi guys!

I'm finally back from Japan and coincidentally I'm just in time for St Patty's Day!

I couldn't wait to start using my new polishes I got from Japan! These are the colours I used:

Yellow - Bon Bon
Green - Bon Bon
Clover - Sally Hansen
Glitter - Pa
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl
Base Coat - Essie Nail Hardener
Gel Base - Gelist Clear Base

Yes...I started using gel! I'm quite happy with the gel since it makes my nail hard and strong. I'm still looking for a new brand of nail polish remover and a place that sells 100% pure acetone...

Look forward to my nail haul from Japan! I'm so excited and you should be too!

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

A Japanese Chinese New Year!

Hi Nailies!!

I'm now in the land of the rising sun! So incredibly happy right now but as promised, here is my Japan mani for CNY!

I had already decided to wear a thermal polish to Japan since I can't really see the transition in Malaysia due to the constant humid weather. Then, I thought it's still CNY so why don't I add a little CNY to it and just on time did my new MoYou London Zodiac plate arrive! I just HAD to order it because I am a ram/goat/sheep and it just felt like it was MY plate you know...

I used the reverse stamping method to get the designs onto my nails and I have to say that Mundodeunas stamping polishes are my all time favourite now as they are opaque, stamp well and do not smudge. The only downside is the smell cause man! is it potent!!

I am really happy with this mani and hopefully it lasts a few days although I did bring a few bottles to touch up with. Such mix feelings me has right now. ;_;

Colours Used:

Thermal Polish - Miss Ashleigh Pa Rum Pum Plum
Black - Mundodeunas Black
Base Coat - Essie Nail Hardener
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl

Well, that's it for this post! If you want to see snipbits of my Japan trip then follow my instagram account @chronosz. Btw, great service by the flight attendant on airasia for being so thoughtful when le boyfriend was having motion sickness. Double thumbs up!!

Cheers!

羊年快乐! Happy Chinese New Year!

Hi Everyone!

Happy Chinese New Year! (although it's already the 8th day of new year) =P

I'll be flying off to Japan tomorrow for a 2 week holiday and I am super duper excited but leaving tomorrow means I won't be with the fam for chap goh meh (15th and last day of new year). Darn you cheap flight tickets! Sad as I may be for missing 5 days of new year at home, I'll have that much and more fun in Japan especially since we've been planning it for a year!

Anyways! Here's my mani on the 1st and 3rd day of CNY! I wanted to get a gel base mani but it just didn't work out especially with the pricing...

I decided to go with a mani inspired by @svetasanders on instagram which features gold nail polish and coincidentally or NOT i purchased the OPI Gwen Stephani 18k No Doubt Gold polish! The gradient didn't really work for me though =P

Colours Used:

Red - OPI Big Apple Red
White - OPI Alpine Snow
Gold - OPI No Doubt 18k Gold
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl
Base Coat - Essie Nail Hardener

For the 3rd day, I went with one that I experimented with before. I actually wanted to double stamp it but red just didn't mix well so I left it with white and gold bamboo in the end.

Colours Used:

White - OPI Alpine Snow
Gold - China Glaze Passion
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl
Base Coat - Essie Nail Hardener
Stamped with MoYou London Suki Plate

I'll be posting my Japan mani when I reach Japan hopefully! Can't wait to share it with you guys since it'll be my last CNY mani for the year!

That's it for this post!
Have a Happy Goat Year! Mehhhhh
Cheers!

Love Birds

Hey peeps!

So I just posted a NOTD on instagram and thought "I better write this blog post before I get lazy!"

Yup! That's me...anyway...I haven't painted birds before me thinks...I wanted to do an owl mani that day but all the googled owls didn't appeal to me...Darn me for not screen shoting the nice owl mani!

Back to the point, I saw this wedding invitation on FB that my friend posted (was not his wedding) and thought "Well, that's cute! I should paint that!" So, I did with a little change in scenery of course hahaha

Here's the original.

And here's the mani!

Colours used:
Base coat - Essence Ultra Strong Nail Hardener
Base - Miss Ashleigh Experi-mint & Baby's Got The Blues Ombre (I did this ombre using a brush technique I saw @yagala do on insta...check her out! I think this technique blends better than sponge!)
Others - Acrylic Paint
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

New Year?

Hey all!

So I haven't posted up my new year nails...well here they are!

I asked my bf what should I paint for new years and he said fireworks...

Urghhhh why why why fireworks! I seriously cannot handle fireworks because actual fireworks are so pretty so how are you going to get that onto a nail? I'm sure other nail artists have done it but it just doesn't work for me.

So this is what I ended up with on new years...

Disappointing...I know but there will definitely be a time when I will be happy painting fireworks!

Till then!
Cheers!

Classy French Tips - Minty-fied!

Hi Guys!
Here's my NOTD (Nails of the day) featuring a classy mint lace french tips.
I'm not the type that really likes french tips especially since my nail beds are so incredibly short but this mani is so YES! Plus who would say no to lace and mint?!?
Shorter nail beds = Longer french tips

Anyway, here are the colours I used for the mani.
Base coat - Essence Ultra Strong Nail Hardener
Mint - Miss Ashleigh Experi-mint
Black - Mundodeunas Stamping Polish
Top Coat - Glisten & Glow HK Girl
Nail Vinyls - Teismom
That's it for this post!

Normal Stamping Vs Reverse Stamping

Hey guys!

I posted this mani on instagram (@chronosz) last night and wanted to discuss the pros and cons of 'Normal stamping Vs Reverse Stamping'.

The photos are not very clear but hopefully it will suffice for this brief explanation.

I used reverse stamping on the pointer finger whereas the others were done using the normal stamping method. From my observation, the design is clearer and neater using the reverse stamping method. On the other hand, the normal stamping allows for missing pieces of the pattern and the design can sometimes come out crooked.

This can be explain by the following:

  1. You did not stamp the design properly
  2. Part of the polish dried
  3. The polish you are using is not suitable
For me, I am still looking for a good stamping polish. my favourite black polish from The Faceshop is too sheer for stamping. So far, I have purchased black polishes from Laval and Rica. Truth be told, I was incredibly excited when I got my Rica polishes. I had seen so many beautiful manis using her polish but to my dismay it was not meant to be. The Rica polish was impossible to stamp with, even with the reverse stamping method. I'm not saying that it's not good but there were other factors preventing me from using it properly. I'll comment more on this in a different post.

Getting back to the topic at hand, reverse stamping is done by top coating the design when it is on the stamper, wait for it to dry, peel it off, top coat your nail and paste it on like a nail wrap. Basically, it's a DIY nail wrap. The reason why the design comes out neater is because reasons 1 & 2 do not apply here. The downside is that it could come out uneven when you're putting it on your nail. I still have difficulties with it and most of the time, the side of the 'nail wrap' doesn't stick on the nail and it leaves air pockets.

It is best to press it down onto your nail and make sure it's stuck on hard first before cutting off the excess and applying another layer of top coat. Here's a video tutorial from the amazing Sveta Sanders. Check here instagram out for more amazing manis!!

In my opinion, normal stamping is all good if you've got a good polish while reverse stamping is good when you have some of the problems above like I do or if you want to add a little colour to the design.

That's all for this post!
Cheers!

RWBY

Hello all!

I'm not really feeling the other Halloween manis so here's another anime inspired mani instead!
I've been meaning to watch this anime for some time now since my bf was talking about it. It's an English animation with awesome battle scenes and although each episode is only 15 minutes long, it's freaking awesome!

So, this design was inspired by the monsters in the anime called grimm. I couldn't really get a clear image of them from the anime so i asked mr. Google. 

I found illustrations of the grimm on deviant art.

I think this is quite good work considering I'm still a noob at acrylic paint. Check it out!

See you guys next time!
Cheers!
